Restore an Icon - 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II BJ7 2+2 Sports Convertible

The inspired brainchild of Donald Healey, powered by readily available Austin four-cylinder and eventually six-cylinder engines, the Austin-Healey is simply the definitive British sports car of the 1950s and 1960s. Accompanied by a legacy of racing success and appreciated by legions of fans today, the "Big Healey" is blessed by enthusiastic clubs, extensive parts support, and a number of noted restoration specialists today. For enthusiasts looking for a proper "wind in your hair" driving experience, the Austin-Healey is matched by few classic automobiles.

The introduction of the BJ7 model in 1962 introduced significant improvements in comfort, including the introduction of roll-up windows, which replaced the former requirement for side curtains in case of foul weather conditions. Recently, I made a detailed inspection of a BJ7 2+2 from 1963 that is now available in Ontario.

An incomplete restoration of an overall complete car with much of the work already done, the Healey features a rebuilt engine and gearbox (circa 2005), new electrics, and a solid body with most brightwork in place. Upside is quite good, with nice driver-quality examples trading in the $30,000 range and full-on, show-quality restored examples bringing considerably more. Detail photos and a comprehensive condition report are available upon request. If you are interested in purchasing the car, kindly comment below the post or email me at

This Healey has just been sold to a new owner in the USA and it will soon be restored to as-new condition!
